A Year Later - Still Window-less

Computer Update

My desktop is now fully Mac. The M2 Pro Mac Mini from last year has been doing a wonderful job. My  HP micro-PC running Linux is now used by Lee. Her own computer had died - probably a memory problem, not sure - and as she'd been running Linux on it, the changeover was simple. Slide one out and slide one in. Her desktop space increased because the micro is much smaller. Win-win.

That transition mean that I was losing my day-to-day Linux fix. I was OK with that because, by this time, I had really gotten used to the macOS environment. Also, my own desktop space increased a bit. I still have to many cables and devices but that's to be expected...but now there's more room to let them lay about.

So, what's next?

Well, I have my eyes on an M4 Pro based Mac Mini. That'll mean another shift in computers. Maybe Lee will get the M2 and I'll take her Linux box to run it as a backup server. (I already do that with an underpowered 11-year old Mac Mini that runs Linux. So, it'll be a kind of slide-out slide-in thing.

The big challenge will be getting Lee to accept the Mac environment. I think I can win her over.

Photo Update

I've sold a few of my Linux cameras and used the proceeds to acquire a newer model. It's only one but it's a really good one. We had used multiple cameras to shoot Ooma's Cookie Jar, but that show is no more. Lee doesn't want to do it. I'm looking forward to using the new camera more for video but it's quite happy doing stills. Win-win.

More importantly, none of my lenses need to change. That's really where the investment for photography goes, I think. Lenses.

Music and Guitar

I need to start selling off some of my gear. I don't think there's a great market, but it has to be done. I have three guitars and several amps. I need to concentrate on selling the amps. (I like the guitars but if there are nice upgrades that can be had...I could be tempted.)

Musically, I've been doing a lot with Ken on songs. We don't pay out as much, but it's fun to play informally.

TV and Internet

Some changes in dealings with Comcast...dropped about $50 per month by redoing our plan. It's still a lot, though. Maybe someday it'll come down...

...who am I kidding. The town has been looking at optical cables but the process is almost non-existent. I don't know if it would be much cheaper. Hopefully, by the time they get their act together, the competitive pressure will help. I don't have much home, though.
