I'm Getting Lazy As A Photographer

I find that, lately, I've been relying more and more on my iPhone for photography. Sometimes it's just an opportunity that comes along and I only have the smartphone to take advantage...

...and then the iPhone uploads to Google and I get this...

...which is interesting because, with little or no effort, I nwo have a lot of useful information about the image. My current cameras don't really do this. I have to wonder why it is I bother with them at all.

To make matters worse, the iPhone does a nice job on videos. In fact, this landscape panorama was an afterthought. I had actually gone to this location of do a video recording of the Veterans Day Ceremony taking place on the bridge where I was standing. The action was on the other side and involved a short speech, a gun volley, taps, and was over in about 10 minutes. As I was packing up, I noticed the morning sun making the image interesting. I just pulled up the iPhone, turned on a pano app called XP4N, and made the photo.

I'm pretty sure that, if I had my Lumix G9 or GX8, I would have also photographed with that. The results would likely be sharper, and then I probably wouldn't have used my iPhone, and they I wouldn't get the interesting info that Google Photos can now provide.

At some point, the camera manufacturers have to get the act together.
